Michigan Opioid Treatment Access Scholarship Program (MIOTA-SP)
MIOTA Scholarship Program (MIOTA-SP) Overview
The State of Michigan, along with other states, reached settlements with drug manufacturers, distributors, and pharmacies for their role in the opioid epidemic. The opioid settlement funds that Michigan received were directed to the Michigan Opioid Healing and Recovery Fund. These funds are designated to support substance use disorder (SUD) treatment, prevention, recovery, and harm reduction.
The MIOTA Scholarship Program (MIOTA-SP) aims to increase the number of qualified opioid treatment professionals in Michigan as part of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) efforts to meet these strategic goals, as outlined on the Michigan Opioids Task Force website. The MIOTA-SP will expand access to SUD services in Michigan by providing scholarships to eligible students. MIOTA-SP scholarships are intended for students who are in the process of completing a degree program that leads to a profession dedicated to providing SUD services to residents of Michigan. Selected students must commit to providing SUD services in Michigan for a minimum of two years after graduation.
