Dr. Wilcox, Former Chief Medical Executive and Director of Epidemiology Recognized

Michigan Department of Community Health Director, James K. Haveman, Jr., today commented on the death of Dr. Kenneth Wilcox, who served as Director of the Epidemiology Division of the Department of Community Health until his retirement in 1997. Dr. Wilcox had also served as Chief Medical Executive and Director of Laboratories for the Department of Public Health. Dr. Wilcox passed away on June 15, 2001.

"Dr. Wilcox was an outstanding health professional who proudly served the State of Michigan for over 35 years as an employee of the Departments of Public Health and Community Health," said Haveman. "His professionalism and genuine concern for the health of Michigan citizens will long be remembered."

"Dr. Wilcox was a gentle teacher and mentor who made a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to work with him," said Michigan Department of Community Health Chief Medical Executive, Dr. David Johnson. "His commitment and dedication serve as a model for so many of us in the field of public health."

Dr. Wilcox earned his undergraduate degree from Ohio University in 1951 and a Medical Degree from the University of Chicago in 1955. He went on to earn a Masters degree in Public Health (MPH) in 1960 and a Doctoral degree in Public Health (Dr.P.H.) in 1963 from the University of Michigan School of Public Health.

There will be a memorial service honoring Dr. Wilcox at noon on Saturday, June 23, at the People's Church in East Lansing.
