Caro Center Awarded National Accreditation

January 17, 2002

Michigan Department of Community Health Director, James K. Haveman, Jr. and Caro Center Director, Rose Laskowski, today announced that the Caro Center has achieved continued accreditation from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.

"This distinctive designation means that the Caro Center has demonstrated compliance with the Joint Commission's nationally recognized health care standards," said Haveman. "This accreditation is the result of the Center's hard work and commitment to providing the highest quality mental health services."

Founded in 1951, the Joint Commission is dedicated to continuously improving the safety and quality of the nation's health care through voluntary accreditation. The Joint Commission's on-site survey of the Caro Center occurred in December.

"Above all, the national standards are intended to stimulate continuous, systematic and organization wide improvement in an organization's performance and the outcomes of care," said Russell P. Massaro, M.D., executive vice president, Accreditation Operations, Joint Commission. "The community should be proud that Caro Center is focusing on the most challenging goal-to continuously raise quality to higher levels."

Laskowski, spoke of her pride in a staff whose members have developed new and innovative treatment modalities and environmental enhancements to assure the individual needs of the Center's two hundred patients are met on an ongoing basis. "Striving for compliance with the standards requires team work from staff who are committed to continually upgrading services for the patients. Staff also benefit from the educational aspects of the survey and have the opportunity to interact with the team of surveyors."

She called the accreditation, "proof of an organization wide commitment to provide high quality care and treatment."
