The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) has summarily suspended the pharmacy license of Levan Pharmacy. The MDCH Bureau of Health Professions orders a summary suspension when it believes that the public’s health, safety, and welfare warrant emergency action.
The suspension was a result of an investigation conducted by MDCH, which revealed that Levan Pharmacy was open for business without a licensed pharmacist being present in the establishment. During the time the pharmacy was open, the Pharmacy was receiving prescription information and dispensing prescriptions, including a prescription for a controlled substance. The MDCH inspector also discovered that controlled substances, including schedule 2 controlled substances were left unsecured in the open pharmacy.
On December 20, 2005, MDCH issued an order immediately suspending Levan Pharmacy’s license pursuant to the Public Health Code. An administrative hearing will be scheduled to address the status of Levan Pharmacy’s license.
