The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) has summarily suspended the licensed practical nurse license of Katherine Denice Abibnejad, L.P.N., based on her misdemeanor conviction in the 30th Judicial Circuit Court, Lansing. Abibnejad failed to report her conviction to MDCH as required by the Public Health Code.
On December 12, 2006, Abibnejad was convicted of Attempt Medicaid False Claims, a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for a maximum term of two years. As a result, Abibnejad was sentenced to 60 days in jail, with 53 days credit.
On September 28, 2007, MDCH issued an order immediately suspending Abibnejad's license pursuant to the Public Health Code, which provides for the mandatory summary suspension of a health professional's license upon the conviction of a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for a maximum term of two years. An administrative hearing will be scheduled to address the status of Abibnejad's nursing license.
