Canadian Physician Loses License In Michigan
November 07, 2007
November 7, 2007
The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) has immediately suspended the license to practice medicine of Mohamed Abdel-Samei Mekawy, M.D. The MDCH Bureau of Health Professions orders a summary suspension when it believes that the public's health, safety, and welfare warrant emergency action.
On September 27, 2007, the Medical Licensing Board of Indiana issued a Summary Suspension based, in part, on Mekawy prescribing Soma, Fioricet, and Tramadol via an internet pharmacy to residents of Arkansas that Mekawy had never had any direct contact with prior to issuing the prescriptions.
On October 22, 2007, MDCH issued an order summarily suspending Mekawy's medical license. An administrative hearing will be scheduled to address the status of Mekawy's license.
