The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) has immediately suspended the medical license of Zack B. Brown, M.D., based on his felony convictions in the United States District Court, Western District of Michigan. Brown failed to report his convictions to MDCH as required by the Public Health Code.
On May 21, 2007, Brown was convicted of one felony count of conspiracy, 53 felony counts of mail fraud and 26 felony counts of health care fraud. As a result, Brown was sentenced to imprisonment for a period of 60 months for conspiracy; 200 months for mail fraud and 120 months for health care fraud, to run concurrently. Brown also was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $1,130,466.54.
On December 10, 2007, MDCH issued an order summarily suspending Brown's license pursuant to the Public Health Code which provides for the mandatory summary suspension of a health professional upon the conviction of a felony. An administrative hearing will be scheduled to address the status of Brown's medical license.
