The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) has summarily suspended the registered nurse license of Mary Louis Gettig, R.N., based on her convictions in the 16th Judicial Circuit Court, Macomb County, Michigan. Gettig failed to report her convictions to MDCH as required by the Public Health Code.
On April 3, 2008, Gettig, 48, was convicted of controlled substance-obtaining by fraud, controlled substance-attempted obtaining by fraud, and identity theft, all of which are felonies. As a result, Gettig was placed on probation for three years with terms, and was ordered to pay restitution, costs and fees in the amount of $2,551.30.
On Aug. 6, 2008, MDCH issued an order immediately suspending Gettig's license pursuant to the Public Health Code, which provides for the mandatory summary suspension of a health professional upon the conviction of a felony or a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for a maximum term of two years, or a misdemeanor involving the illegal delivery, possession or use of a controlled substance. An administrative hearing will be scheduled to address the status of Gettig's license to practice as a registered nurse.
