The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) has immediately suspended the occupational therapist license of Anne M. Karson, O.T., based, on her conviction in the 6th Judicial Circuit Court of Oakland County, Michigan. Karson, 49, failed to report the conviction to the MDCH as required by the Michigan Public Health Code.
On Jan. 22, 2009, Karson was convicted of operating under the influence of liquor/per se-3rd offense, a felony. As a result, Karson was sentenced to 90 days in jail (with credit for 64 days), placed on probation for a period of two years with specified terms, and ordered to pay a fine, costs and fees totaling $1,220.00.
On Feb. 24, 2010, MDCH issued an order summarily suspending Karson's license pursuant to the Public Health Code, which provides for the mandatory summary suspension of a health professional's license upon the conviction of a felony, a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for a maximum term of two years, or a controlled substance-related conviction.
