The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) has immediately suspended the pharmacist license of Hossam M. Tanana, R.Ph., based on his conviction in the United States District court of the Eastern District of Michigan.
On Oct. 14, 2009, Tanana, 24, was convicted of conspiracy to distribute schedule 2, 3, and 4 controlled substances, a felony. As a result, Tanana was sentenced to incarceration for a period of 36 months, supervised release with specified terms for a period of three years, and ordered to pay fines and costs totaling $50,100.
On June 2, 2010, MDCH issued an order summarily suspending Tanana's license pursuant to the Public Health Code, which provides for the mandatory summary suspension of a health professional upon the conviction of a felony, a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for a maximum term of two years, or a controlled substance-related conviction. Tanana's license is due to expire on June 30, 2012.
