Mattawan Village Pharmacy and Pharmacist Owner Lose Licenses
July 27, 2010
The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) has summarily suspended the pharmacy license of Mattawan Village Pharmacy, and the pharmacist license of Edward Kevin Nantais, R.Ph., the owner of the pharmacy. The MDCH Bureau of Health Professions orders a summary suspension when it believes that the public's health, safety, and welfare warrant emergency action.
The suspension was a result of Nantais, 52, and Mattawan Village Pharmacy fraudulently billing a prescription medicine benefit administrator for dispensing prescription medications over the period of time of May 1, 2006, through Dec. 31, 2008. The prescription drug billings totaled approximately $166,600.00.
On July 15, 2010, MDCH issued an order summarily suspending the pharmacy license of Mattawan Village Pharmacy and an order summarily suspending Nantais' pharmacist license pursuant to the Public Health Code.
