MDCH Chief Nurse Executive Named 2010 American Academy of Nursing New Fellow
November 15, 2010
LANSING - Jeanette W. Klemczak, chief nurse executive at the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) was inducted into the American Academy of Nursing on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010 as one of the new Fellows. Two current Academy Fellows nominated Klemczak for this honor and the Academy's 15-member Fellow Selection Committee chose her for her outstanding achievements in the nursing profession. Klemczak was formally inducted as a Fellow with 113 other nursing leaders during the Academy's Annual Awards Ceremony and Induction Banquet in Washington, D.C.
"This honor is possible because of the vision of Gov. Jennifer Granholm and MDCH Director Janet Olszewski and the excellence and support of the Michigan nursing community," said Klemczak. "It is also an opportunity to further contribute to health policy for the well-being of the people of our state."
In a devastated economy, Klemczak has successfully garnered nursing funding. She has increased the number of faculty, expanded education program capacity, and developed a strategic direction requiring a specific plan by each Michigan school to increase minority recruitment and retention. She has inserted nursing's interests in the formulation of Michigan and national policies and legislation. Her work products and the lessons learned have been shared nationwide through media, presentations and consultation.
The Academy is constituted to anticipate national and international trends in health care, and address resulting issues of health care knowledge and policy. Not only is the invitation to Fellowship recognition of one's accomplishments within the nursing profession, but also affords an opportunity to work with other leaders in health care in addressing the issues of the day. The Academy's mission is to serve the public and nursing profession by advancing health policy and practice through the generation, synthesis, and dissemination of nursing knowledge.
