Livingston County Recognized as a “Community for a Lifetime”
LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan Office of Services to the Aging (OSA) through the Commission on Services to the Aging has designated Livingston County as a “Community for a Lifetime” (CFL), in recognition of their efforts to become a more aging-friendly community.
“Livingston County has done a tremendous job and should be commended for their hard work toward this important national movement to make our communities friendly for all ages,” said OSA Director Kari Sederburg.
Established in 2007, the CFL is part of a nationwide effort to respond to the needs of a rapidly aging population. To qualify for CFL recognition, a community conducts a self-assessment or initiates an improvement that meets the program’s age-friendly goals.
Livingston County assessed itself on many important issues for seniors including walkability, and access to health care, transportation, housing, enrichment activities, and safety and security. Strengths included:
- Additional routes and connecting points for pedestrians and bicyclists between cities
- Senior emergency room departments with geriatric expertise and aging-friendly environments
- A comprehensive senior housing guide
- Specific training programs to enhance the health and wellness of seniors
