State suspends adult foster care license of Oakland County group home

Lansing, Mich. Oct. 10, 2014 –The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Bureau of Children and Adult Licensing issued an order of summary suspension and notice of intent to revoke the license of an Oakland County adult foster care small group home.

This action resulted from a recent investigation of Pioneer Rehabilitation Specialists, Inc., License No. AS630311899, 6372 Tutbury Lane in Troy.

The investigation found violations of the Adult Foster Care Facility Licensing Act and administrative rules regarding the care of residents. The Bureau of Children and Adult Licensing took emergency action to protect the health, welfare and safety of vulnerable adults.

Effective Wednesday, Oct. 8, the summary suspension order prohibits Pioneer Rehabilitation Specialists from operating the Troy home or from accepting aged adults or people with physical or developmental disabilities or mental illnesses. The order also requires the facility to inform all guardians of adults in its care that its license has been suspended and that it can no longer provide adult foster care at this address.

Pioneer Rehabilitation Specialists has held a license to operate an adult foster care small group home since August 2011. The license was for six adults.

Michigan law defines an adult foster care small group home as “an adult foster care facility with the approved capacity to receive 12 or fewer adults to be provided with foster care.”

The licensee has the right to appeal this suspension. The case will be forwarded to the Michigan Administrative Hearing System for a hearing date.
