LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services today released a Request for Proposals (RFP) for local health departments interested in exploring service sharing arrangements and collaborations among counties and districts. An estimated $300,000 is available for up to 10 collaborative efforts, and awards may range from $10,000 to $75,000.
Collaboration and/or a shared approach to the delivery of services, also known as cross jurisdictional sharing (CJS), are important concepts in the future of public health in America.
CJS is recognized by National Association of County and City Health Officials and supported by the Center for Sharing Public Health Services. The Center serves as a national resource on CJS, disseminating tools, methods and models to assist local health departments and policy makers as they consider and adopt CJS approaches. The Center is funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and is managed by the Kansas Health Care Institute.
The Center has developed a roadmap which outlines three phases to guide jurisdictions through the CJS process. These phases include exploration, preparation and planning, and implementation and improvements.
This RFP is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Preventive Health and Health Services Block Grant. Local health departments, including city, single county, and district, are encouraged to apply. Once awarded, the awards will be effective for the remainder of the current fiscal year through September 30, 2016.
Applicants must be a single existing local health department in Michigan applying in partnership with one or more other local health departments. Although one agency will be the fiduciary and responsible grantee, all partners must show their willingness to participate by submitting letters of support and participation. Applicants are encouraged to visit the Center for Sharing Health Services’ website, www.PHSharing.org, for additional details about CJS.
