For Immediate Release: January 28, 2016

Michigan Career and Technical Institute to graduate 158 students

Barry County, Mich. – A graduation ceremony will be held on Saturday, Jan. 30, to recognize the hard work and accomplishments of 158 students from throughout the state who completed one of Michigan Career and Technical Institute’s technical training programs.

The graduation will take place at 1 p.m. at their Plainwell campus, 11611 W. Pine Lake Road. MCTI is operated by Michigan Rehabilitation Services within the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and provides vocational training in 13 different career areas for adults with disabilities.

In honor of a successful partnership, this ceremony will include Haworth Inc. Chairman Matthew Haworth as a guest speaker. Haworth Inc. has shown a vested interest in helping MCTI students transition successfully into gainful employment with the recent hire of 11 cabinetmaking program graduates.

MCTI and its staff strive to promote the integration of persons with disabilities into both the competitive workplace and the society in which they live. As part of MCTI, students have the opportunity to be enrolled in one of 13 technical training programs, including automotive technology, cabinetmaking/millwork, certified nursing assistant, culinary arts, custodial, electronics, graphic communications, grounds maintenance/landscaping, machine technology, office automation, pharmacy technician, retail marketing and weatherization.

MCTI also offers health, psychological and social work services, sports and activities, family housing, student government and much more. Learn more at www.michigan.gov/mcti.
