Annual child abuse prevention fundraiser by Children's Trust Fund to feature smartphone bidding for fun auction items

For Immediate Release: April 28, 2016

LANSING, Mich. – A May 18 annual auction fundraiser to prevent child abuse and neglect in Michigan will now go digital, allowing people to use their smartphones to bid for fun items in the event’s silent auction segment.

Organized by the Children’s Trust Fund, the Pam Posthumus Signature Auction Event at the Lansing Center will also feature a high-energy live auction of one-of-a-kind, customized gift packages, including vacation packages to domestic and international locations and tickets to some of the most anticipated performances of the year.

Registered participants will use the mobile bidding feature for silent auction items, and can enter their bids using their smartphones from anywhere.

“We’re really excited to introduce this new feature that can encourage more people to bid for unique items in our silent auction, using their smartphones to have fun and support an important cause at the same time,” said Children’s Trust Fund Executive Director Michael Foley. “The Pam Posthumus Signature Auction Event is a great opportunity for everyone in Michigan to come together and help reduce child abuse and neglect. Together with the outstanding efforts of our many community partners, the auction event is one way we can bring hope to countless kids and help them live full, successful lives.”

To support the Signature Auction Event, people are encouraged to buy tickets online at http://501auctions.com/ctfsignature to be automatically registered to bid in the auction.

Auction items include trips to Hawaii and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, suites for Detroit Tigers and University of Michigan and Michigan State football games and tickets to concerts by Beyonce at Ford Field and Josh Groban at DTE Energy Music Theatre.

“Mobile bidding gives our guests multiple options for supporting the Children’s Trust Fund because they can participate in person at the Lansing Center on May 18 and be part of the live auction for great gifts, meet people who share our commitment to preventing child abuse – or they can have fun bidding on silent auction items from the comfort of their homes, wherever they are,” said Lori Wortz, Children’s Trust Fund board chair. “The Children’s Trust Fund and our many valued partners are committed to using every resource to reduce abuse and neglect. Going mobile is just another evolution in our effort to help our kids so they can grow up safe and be successful.”

Doors open at 5 p.m. on May 18.

The Pam Posthumus Signature Auction Event is named after the late wife of former Michigan Lt. Gov. Dick Posthumus. She was a tireless advocate for preventing child abuse and the event honors her legacy. Pam Posthumus was appointed to the Children’s Trust Fund Board of Directors in 1997 and became its chair in 2002.

The Children’s Trust Fund, housed within the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, does critically important work for Michigan and the next generation of families. In 2015, more than 34,000 children in Michigan were victims of abuse and neglect – or 95 children who were put at serious risk every day.

The mobile bidding sponsor for this year’s event is AT&T Michigan and the official carrier is Delta Air Lines. Other major sponsors of this year’s event include Cinnaire, DTE Energy Foundation, Jackson National Life Insurance and CNSI.
