LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) HIV Care and Prevention Section has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for HIV prevention services.
Eligible applicants include government and educational organizations, medical clinics and nonprofits that provide prevention services to populations at risk of HIV infection.
MDHHS works to ensure all people at risk for contracting HIV have access to prevention services to ensure healthy outcomes and reduced risk for infection. The HIV prevention program’s priorities are to identify individuals at risk for HIV infection, provide services and referrals to service for those individuals and individuals living with HIV and to conduct HIV prevention social marketing campaigns. Priority populations for these efforts include individuals who are disproportionately at-risk for HIV infection: men who have sex with men, transgender individuals, Black Americans, Latino Americans, people who inject drugs, youth age 13-24 years of age, Asian Americans, Pacific Islander, American Indian and Alaska Natives.
Applicants should use epidemiologic and social determinants data to identify individuals and geographic areas disproportionately affected by HIV within their communities. In addition, applicants should consider social determinants of health in the development, implementation and evaluation of program specific efforts and use culturally appropriate interventions tailored to the communities for which they are intended.
Grants awards are varied and will be awarded based on proposed activities and the reasonable costs to implement them. Grant applications must be submitted electronically through the MI E-Grants program by July 10 at 3 p.m. The HIV prevention project period is Oct. 1, 2018 – Sept. 30, 2019.
