Data Systems

Public health decisions are driven by data. We use several statewide data systems to monitor communicable diseases, track vaccination coverage, and identify emerging health trends. Together, these systems collect critical information to inform decision-making, guide prevention efforts, and support a coordinated and timely public health response across Michigan.

Each system serves a specific purpose within Michigan’s public health infrastructure:

Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR): Maintains immunization records to support providers and public health monitoring.

Michigan Disease Surveillance System (MDSS): Collects reportable communicable diseases data to support timely public health monitoring and response.

Michigan Syndromic Surveillance System (MSSS): Monitors real-time health data to identify disease trends and support rapid response.
