Immunization Recommendations for Michigan
Health care providers in Michigan: When determining what vaccines are recommended by age group and/or risk factors, please use the immunization schedules from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP).
- The AAP immunization schedule should be used when vaccinating children and adolescents, from birth through 18 years of age.
- The AAFP immunization schedule should be used when vaccinating adults ages 19 and older.
- Review guidance on recommended vaccines during pregnancy from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG).
In October 2025, the Michigan Advisory Committee on Immunizations (MACI) approved a resolution to endorse the adoption of immunization schedules published by AAP, AAFP and ACOG as the standards of care for immunization practices within Michigan. MDHHS and MACI encourage the implementation of these schedules in clinical and community practices.
Please also review the Governor’s Executive Directive on COVID-19 vaccine access and the Chief Medical Executive’s Standing Recommendation on COVID-19 vaccines, which states that “any person over the age of six months without contraindication who has not received a dose of a Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved or -authorized 2025-2026 COVID-19 vaccine may be considered to have an underlying condition that puts them at high risk for severe outcomes from COVID-19 and is thus eligible to receive an age appropriate dose."
