The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services will require the use of the Michigan Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (MichiCANS) tool statewide, in the public mental health system, beginning October 1, 2024. In preparation of statewide rollout of the MichiCANS tool, the Bureau of Children’s Coordinated Health, Policy and Supports (BCCHPS) is sharing the following reference documents in order to assist with education and capacity building:

  • MichiCANS Flyers
  • MichiCANS Reference Guides and Rating Sheets for the MichiCANS Screener and MichiCANS Comprehensive
  • MichiCANS Certification Training PowerPoint
  • MichiCANS Video

These reference guides and rating sheets are subject to change until the Prepaid Inpatient Health Plans (PIHP) and Community Mental Health Service Program (CMHSP) contractual changes are finalized.

The training PowerPoint information is being provided as a reference and does not serve as a substitute for the mandatory training and certification requirements.
