Prescription Drug Overdose (PDO) Prevention Initiative
Michigan’s opioid epidemic is a public health problem that is growing quickly. In fact, overdose deaths now kill more Michiganders than traffic crashes, by a substantial margin.
- In 2015, nearly 2,000 Michiganders died from drug overdoses. About 60 percent of these overdose deaths were due to an opioid.
Organizations, programs and people across Michigan are working together to prevent prescription drug and other opioid related overdoses and deaths. As part of Michigan’s prevention network, the PDO program has two specific goals:
- Collect and share data related to opioid use and misuse.
- Enhance education related to opioid use and misuse.
