Michigan Opioid Treatment Access Internship Stipend Program (MIOTA-ISP)
MIOTA Internship Stipend Program (MIOTA-ISP) Overview
The State of Michigan, along with other states, reached settlements with drug manufacturers, distributors, and pharmacies for their role in the opioid epidemic. The opioid settlement funds that Michigan received were directed to the Michigan Opioid Healing and Recovery Fund. These funds are designated to support SUD treatment, prevention, recovery, and harm reduction.
The MIOTA Internship Stipend Program (MIOTA-ISP) aims to increase the number of qualified opioid treatment professionals in Michigan as part of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services efforts to meet these strategic goals. The MIOTA-ISP will expand access to SUD treatment access in Michigan by providing a stipend of up to $20,000 to eligible student interns. MIOTA-ISP stipends are intended for interns who are in the process of completing a bachelor or graduate level degree program that leads to a profession dedicated to providing SUD treatment services to SUD populations in Michigan. The internship must be completed in the State of Michigan, and selected interns must be committed to providing SUD treatment services in Michigan after graduation.
MIOTA-ISP participants may also have the opportunity to receive additional funding after graduation and securing employment at an eligible SUD treatment-related practice site. Additional details regarding this supplementary incentive program will be provided soon.
