Resources for Family Support

You are not alone! Resources are available for family support, financial assistance, and educational guidance. 

    • Michigan Hands & Voices supports families of children who are deaf or hard of hearing, regardless of communication mode or language. They believe all children can reach their full potential. The non-profit offers free events, trainings, and family support programs.

      Michigan Hands & Voices can provide:

      • Free visits virtually or in your home with a Parent Guide. Parent Guides are experienced parents of children who are DHH. Guides are available who speak English, Spanish, Arabic, and Urdu.
      • A free annual membership in Michigan Hands & Voices following your first Parent Guide visit.
      • A free family resource notebook during your first Parent Guide visit.
      • Practical solutions to everyday challenges.
      • Introductions and visits with DHH Guides. DHH Guides are individuals who grew up Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH Guide) and can share their lived experiences.
      • Guidance for working with professionals to ensure you get the most out of each medical appointment.

    • Children’s Special Health Care Services (CSHCS) can help cover future diagnostic testing, transportation, hearing aids, and cochlear implants. CSHCS can serve families with commercial insurance, Medicaid, and families without insurance. Call 800-359-3722 or visit the website at CSHCS to learn more.

    • Early On® is Michigan's educational system for helping families of infants and toddlers who have delays or disabilities. Family-centered services and supports are available for your child. The goal is to help children reach their full potential.

      • If your baby is between birth and 3 years old, contact Early On®. 1-800-Early On (1-800-327-5966) or visit, Early On
      • If your child is between 3 and 5 years old, contact Build Up Michigan. 1-888-320-8384 or visit www.buildupmi.org.
      • If your child is over 5 years old, contact your local intermediate school district.
