The Michigan Office of Services to the Aging is seeking nominations for Senior Citizen of the Year. Two of Michigan's older adults will be honored at the State Capitol Building on June 15, 2011, during the 4th Annual Older Michiganians Day event.
Sponsored by the Michigan Office and Commission on Services to the Aging, awards will be presented to two individuals age 60 or older. One award is for leadership in the community. The other award recognizes service to others. Selections will be determined by service or leadership contributed during the past year.
"These awards are presented every year to recognize the special, voluntary contributions of two older adults," said Olga Dazzo, Director of the Michigan Department of Community Health and Acting Director of the Office of Services to the Aging. "They highlight the valuable contributions made by dedicated citizens to the civic and social life in our state."
Nominees must be age 60 or older on or before May 2, 2011. All nominations must be submitted by an organization, and the nomination form must be signed by a presiding officer of that organization. Nominees can be employed at the time of the nomination, but applicants will be judged on service or leadership in unpaid, volunteer positions.
Nominations must be postmarked by Monday, May 2, 2011, and mailed to:
