MDHHS issues RFPs to support individuals with developmental disabilities
October 17, 2016
For Immediate Release: October 17, 2016
LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) is issuing two requests for proposals (RFPs) to support individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
Through the MDHHS Michigan Developmental Disabilities Council (MDDC), organizations can now submit proposals for programs related to Self-Determination in Michigan and Leadership Development Opportunities.
Through the Leadership Development Opportunities RFP, MDDC seeks an organization to create a range of leadership development opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). This new initiative must establish training and development opportunities for people with I/DD that meet them where they are in terms of experience and what they hope to learn. Training should range from basic disability identity and pride, to developing the skills needed to take leadership in local activities, learning to serve on the boards and committees that shape local services, and starting local self-advocacy groups.
The Self-Determination in Michigan RFP seeks an organization to establish a statewide effort to address availability and access to tools and supports that people with developmental disabilities need to control the services they receive and to live self-directed, self-determined lives. Building on MDDC’s ongoing work to advance self-determination, this new initiative will draft and advocate for consistent standards for self-determination, and provide training and technical assistance on person-centered planning and tools of self-determination.
Both the Leadership Development Opportunities and Self-Determination in Michigan RFPs are open to private non-profit organizations, institutions of higher education, and governmental agencies with demonstrated knowledge and understanding of, and commitment to, self-determination and community inclusion for people with developmental disabilities and their families.
The successful applicant for each RFP will be awarded a five-year grant of $650,000. For detailed instructions on how to complete an application or to apply for the Leadership Development Opportunities or Self-Determination in Michigan grant, visit the DD Suite website http://www.ddsuite.org. Only one application will be accepted from each applicant. The application and any related materials and attachments must be submitted electronically using the DD Suite website. For technical assistance with the DD Suite website, please call Tracy Vincent at 517-284-7296 or at vincentt1@michigan.gov. All applications are due on Nov. 15, 2016.
Any questions concerning the content of either RFP must be sent via email to Dr. Yasmina Bouraoui at BouraouiY@michigan.gov on or before Nov. 4, 2016. MDHHS will compile all relevant questions and answers and post these as well as any other clarifications or revisions to the initial RFPs by Nov. 11, 2016, on the MDDC website.
