Tickets still available for May 17 event; online bidding provides another option

LANSING, Mich. – Supporters of preventing child abuse can give to a good cause while bidding on Michigan-made items, sports and concert tickets and travel packages.
Tickets are available for the annual Children’s Trust Fund Pam Posthumus Signature Auction Event scheduled for May 17 at the Lansing Center. Anyone who can’t attend can still bid on silent auction items online – as can attendees using tablets that are available at the event.
“The Pam Posthumus Signature Auction raises hundreds of thousands of dollars every year to support the work of the Children’s Trust Fund to prevent child abuse and neglect – bringing hope to countless families across Michigan and paving the way for a stronger future for our children,” said Nick Lyon, director of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. “I hope that others will join me in supporting an event that provides valuable dollars to programs in local communities across the state that are making a difference.”
The event is the Children’s Trust Fund’s major fundraiser and pays for services like respite care, home visitation, child development support and other targeted services allowing 101 local partners to continue to provide education and other prevention programs.
During the event, the Children’s Trust Fund will present the 2017 Children’s Advocate Award to Steve Yager, the recently retired executive director of the MDHHS Children’s Services Agency. Yager has more than 30 years of child welfare experience, including 28 years with the State of Michigan, and is a strong advocate for the well-being and protection of children. Under Yager’s leadership, the Children's Trust Fund’s prevention mission was strengthened.
A VIP Reception begins at 4:30 p.m., with the silent auction following at 5 p.m. The event will also feature a live auction of outstanding items ranging from one-of-a-kind sports memorabilia to vacation packages. All auction items are donated by Michigan companies, businesses, families and individuals.
Bidding on silent auction items is available via smartphone or any other electronic device using mobile bidding. Sponsored this year by Verizon Wireless, mobile bidding allows anyone to place a silent bid from wherever they are – even if they can’t make it to the state’s capital.
The auction is named in memory of Pam Posthumus, a tireless advocate for preventing child abuse and the wife of former Michigan Lt. Gov. Dick Posthumus. Pam Posthumus was appointed to the Children’s Trust Fund Board of Directors in 1997 and became its chair in 2002.
