AG Nessel Supports Extending PPO Expiration Dates
April 27, 2020
Attorney General Dana Nessel issued the following statement in support of the administrative order issued today by the Michigan Supreme Court and the executive order issued by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to extend Personal Protection Orders (PPOs) that are scheduled to expire between now and June 1 to be extended so that they now expire on July 21:
“Gov. Whitmer and the Supreme Court’s actions to extend PPOs are vitally important to victims of intimate partner violence. Unfortunately, these victims are particularly vulnerable to stalking and harassment – which is why they sought protection in the first place. Until today, many victims were unable to effectively seek extensions of PPOs during this health care crisis – building upon the anxiety of an already fearful situation. Because of the Governor and the Michigan Supreme Court’s actions today, victims will continue to be protected.”
