Family Engagement
Family Engagement
What is family engagement?
The Family Center supports and empowers families by sharing ways for families to give input on programs and policies that affect them. We encourage parent leaders to develop the knowledge and skills to become active, effective advocates within the systems that provide supports and services to families of children with special health care needs.
How do we engage with families?
The following groups are opportunities for family engagement and involvement with CSHCS.
The Family Leadership Network (FLN)
The FLN was created by the Family Center in partnership with MI Family to Family Health Information Center (MI F2F).
- Two representatives serve two-year terms from ten regions in Michigan (plus two at-large positions).
- FLN representatives connect families with information, resources, and leadership opportunities.
- They bring feedback from their communities to the Family Center and MI F2F on issues of importance to families.
The CSHCS Advisory Committee (CAC)
The CSHCS Advisory Committee makes recommendations and provides guidance to the Children’s Special Health Care Services Division on program policy and operations. They work to ensure that services reflect the voice of consumers, families, and other stakeholders.
Membership is made up of various individuals, including representatives from health care plans and health systems, health departments, disease specific organizations, maternal and child health partners, and families. A minimum of twenty-five percent of the CAC membership is required to be parents, caregivers, and adults enrolled in CSHCS and/or young adults enrolled in CSHCS. For more information on the CAC, visit their website at CSHCS Advisory Committee (CAC).
