January 14, 2026: Attention MIHP Providers: MDHHS has been made aware that MIHP providers are receiving Third Party Liability (TPL) takeback letters even though MIHP claims are exempt from reporting any other insurance. If you receive a takeback letter, you must respond to the number listed in the letter within the time allowed so the claim is not voided and recouped. If a call is not placed within the allotted timeframe the claim will be recouped, and a new claim must be billed.
If the recouped claim date of service is outside of MDHHS Timely Filing policy, of one year from the date of service, providers should rebill the claim with the claim note “Incorrect TPL/MIHP takeback (insert takeback TCN)”.
