3-01 WIC Pharmacy Vendors
3.01 WIC Pharmacy Vendors
Effective Date: 08/01/2021
PURPOSE:
To describe requirements specific to WIC Pharmacy Vendors.
DEFINITIONS:
Pharmacy Vendor means a Vendor who is authorized to provide only WIC-approved formulas and nutritionals in exchange for WIC benefits. Pharmacy Vendors may be grocers with on-site pharmacies or stand-alone pharmacies.
WIC nutritionals means medical foods approved by the State that are specifically formulated to provide nutritional support for WIC participants with a qualifying condition.
POLICY:
- Pharmacy Vendors may be authorized to provide only WIC-approved formulas and nutritionals to WIC participants.
- Pharmacy Vendors must comply with all applicable Federal and State WIC requirements, policies, procedures, and terms of the WIC Vendor Contract.
- Pharmacy Vendors are exempt from the Vendor Limitation Policy and ranking process used for full-line Vendors. (See Policy 2.04 Vendor Limitation Policy.)
- Pharmacy Vendors must:
- Maintain a valid pharmacy license and remain in good standing with the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA).
- Order and provide WIC-approved formulas and nutritionals upon request by WIC participants or WIC representatives.
- Purchase formulas and nutritionals only from WIC-accepted suppliers.
- Maintain invoices and inventory records in accordance with WIC requirements.
- Maintain a valid pharmacy license and remain in good standing with the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA).
- Pharmacy Vendors are subject to compliance monitoring, investigations, sanctions, and adverse actions in the same manner as other WIC Vendors. (See Policy 5.0 Vendor Compliance and 6.0 Vendor Sanctions.)
- The Department may terminate a Pharmacy Vendor’s authorization for failure to comply with any WIC requirements or Vendor Selection Criteria.
